Steve, who sponsored and supported Locks Heath FC for many years, died aged 55 on 9th December last year.
He began his playing career as a teenage goalie for Ipswich Town Youth. One report of him said, "Steve was not the biggest keeper, but he was a great shot stopper with amazing reactions".
Steve then went on to play for Ransomes Sports of Ipswich where he won the SIL and Suffolk Senior Cup double and won two Senior Cup finals at Portman Road.
Steve was also influential in local football when, as a Director of Jewsons, he was instrumental in setting up the sponsorship of the Jewson Wessex League. This relationship lasted ten years, during which time the Wessex League became one of the strongest leagues in the South. In 2003 the Wessex League gave him the title of Honorary Vice-President of the League.
Chairman of Hampshire Premier Football League, Roger Allen said of Steve’s death:
"It is always sad to lose somebody who was obviously a lover of local sport, particularly when their contribution was not only financial but involved his personal presence on the touchline for many years.”
Steve was also a member of the Waltham Chase Rotary Club where he was heavily involved in fund raising for Diabetes UK.
Match kick off will be at 7:00pm at Warsash Recreation Ground, Warsash Road. Entrance to the ground is free, but all donations will be gratefully received.
Following the game there will be a raffle and live music from Portsmouth band Split Sixty.
All proceeds from the evening will be donated to Diabetes UK.
