I was not happy at all with "Basmati" because of below mentioned two reasons. (1) - It was my first day in Southampton and I landed there to order take away. I was asked while showing menu that "XYZ is costly thus I won't suggest you", How did staff knew how much money I was carrying in my wallet. How dare staff to comment on price stating me like the way I won't be able to afford that. I do not know the staff name but I could recognize him with his beard without moustache. He was so rude and told me like if ordering me to sit and wait. I might have banged on him to stating me that rudely that very moment but never wanted to create a scene for no good reason thus I kept mum. (2) - I ordered for some vegetarian dish but with Paneer (Cottage Cheese) in it. I was advised for "Saag Paneer" in Paneer dishes. I ordered Saag Panneer and Chick Peas as take away. At home when I tasted both dishes both were no good and wife slept hungry without eating anything. Saag Paneer was Spinach+ Cheese rather than Cottage Cheese which is actually called as Panneer. About Chick Peas those were just boiled chick peas with some shredded cheese toping on that. I was sad with this experience and wanted to share my feedback with restaurant thus I called Restaurant on immediate basis to share my feedback . First person who picked up my phone was sounded like the same staff about whom I talked above he told me "We will discuss on this next time you will come to restaurant , he told me he will explain me next time" I was more annoyed than call again , second person who picked up phone was very humble and apologised politely. i never wanted to discuss this with manager or some body else from staff and simply ignored going to Basmati in future. After few days I tried "Park Gate Tandori" and I sware till the moment I am in Southampton and want to dine out I would go only and only to "Park Gate Tandori" - It is small restaurant comparatively but excellent food and good staff. Great place. Clean, friendly and good value for money. Not fantastic from the outside, but once you go inside it is a lovely place to dine. Best indian in area.

just joined the site looking for some local info, only to find my local restaurant. I think they are the best in the area. Very high quality food and super service. The previuos post says they are always empty, how strange, because every time weve been in, theres always people eating. Have to book now on Fridays and Saturdays. Not like it used to be when it was the indian garden. If you havent tried them yet, give them a go. you wont be dissapointed.

ReportWalked past it many a time and it's always empty. I get suspicious of empty restaurants. Had a takeaway from there and it was good.

ReportThis isn't my usual take away, but I was at the centre and thought I would give it a try. I must admit I was quite impressed. It was Thursday, so not all that busy, there were a couple of tables occupied in the restaurant - which did look really lovely. But I was only after a take away. The staff seemed friendly, asked if I wanted a drink while I was waiting - which I declined but the drinks were reasonable. The food was ready quite quickly and very hot. When I got it home, it was really good. I will try it again.

No atmosphere and you run the risk of getting mugged when you leave, as it is in the centre. Thought that the Moja in Sarisbury Green was better. The best Indian by far is the Park Gate Tandoori at Swanwick Station. Been eating there for 10 years and never had a bad meal!
Sunday nights at Basmati Locksheath. Appetizer of popadoms and chutney selection, any starter, any main course with rice or naan Bread. Just £12. A few dishes have a small surcharge.
