Name: David Spacey

Job title: Police Sergeant, Safer Neighbourhoods Team, Park Gate West.

Age: 43

Where were you born? Farnborough, Kent

Are you married? I’m single with two children. A boy aged 16 who starts college in September and a daughter aged 12 who is obviously still at school, they both live with me.

Do you have a pet? My daughter has a very spoilt cat named Oscar which I think probably tolerates me.

What do you enjoy most about your job? Making a difference - hopefully for the better - to people’s lives. And the colleagues and partners I work alongside.

What do you enjoy least about your job? The impact it can have on your personal life and family.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were young? Taller?! Actually I wanted to be a Ski Instructor in winter and take tourists out on a glass bottom boat in the summer.

What is your greatest achievement in life so far? Has to be my children.

What’s your favourite food? I absolutely love Sea Food. My favourite restaurant is Loch Fyne Restaurant. It’s that Seafood thing again but also I really like the set up of the Restaurant.

What’s your favourite joke? My favourite joke is far too rude for this web site. However…

Two Burglars were disturbed breaking into a hotel room. The first one said, "I hear Police sirens. Jump!"

The second one said, "But we're on the 13th floor!"

The first one screamed back, "This is no time to be superstitious!"

What do you do to relax? Mountain biking, going to the gym and watching football.

What do you most like about yourself? My open-minded approach to life and work.

What one thing would you most like to change about yourself? Has to be my feet - Long, flat and wide. Typical policeman - if you believe in stereotypes.

What would you most like to do that you haven’t done already? Walk on the Great Wall of China, Dive on the Barrier Reef.

What’s your favourite word? It would be edited out unfortunately.

What makes you angry? Intolerance and petty mindedness. I feel that sometimes a minority of people are all about ‘What’s in this for me’. If we could be a little more tolerant or try to help each other just a little more things may just seem better.

What would you like for Christmas? World Peace? Failing that a Porsche 911 with 5 years free fuel and Insurance!

The Safer Neighbourhoods team is made up of police officers, special constables and police community support officers (volunteers). They work together with the community to tackle local problems and improve the quality of life in this area. To find out more about the work they do look at the Hampshire Constabulary website.

Have a local policing issue? Sergeant Spacey will be available to answer your questions at the next Western Wards Community Action Team (CAT) Meeting on Wednesday 14 October at Whiteley Community Centre from 7 - 8.30pm. More information and minutes from the previous meeting on Fareham Borough Council's website.

My thanks to David Spacey for his time.

Tina

The front Counter of Park Gate Police Station is currently open Monday and Tuesday 0800 - 1600 and Wednesday 0800 - 1200. There was provision to cover the additional opening times with a member of staff being employed on a job share basis. However this staff member is currently away on maternity leave and due to return in January. If the station is shut due to leave or sickness there is the facility to contact the Police via the free intercom at the front of the station or alternatively Fareham Police Station is open 0800 - 2000 7 days a week.
