Swanwick Lions’ ‘Leisure and Pleasure’ at Locks Heath’s Lockswood Centre an unqualified success!

Local fundraising Group Swanwick Lions’ ‘Leisure and Pleasure’ event at Locks Heath’s Lockswood Centre on 27th February has been hailed an unqualified success! 365 people attended the event aimed at giving Locks Heath residents a chance to meet some of their local clubs and organizations.

23 groups exhibited their wares, including Brookfield School’s Global Voices, the Hampshire Branch of the British Red Cross, Lockswood Bowling Club (‘Not just for Old People’!) and Warsash Tennis Club.
Vice-president of Swanwick Lions, Fred Mitchell said:
“All exhibitors seemed very pleased with results. We are considering running a similar event next year, as it also meets with our remit of providing a service to the community.”
Swanwick Lions Club is part of a large International organisation with many worldwide projects. It serves the local community by enhancing the work done by official service organizations, offering additional assistance when the official route has been exhausted. Its Welfare Committee appraises every request for help. All money raised at fund-raising events is used for charitable work; no administration costs are withheld.

Lions International is the largest service club organisation in the world with 45,000 clubs in 200 countries and 1.3 million members. Lions International has consultative status on the United Nations Social and Economic Council, whose purposes are to ‘develop friendly relations among nations’ and ‘to achieve international cooperation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural or humanitarian character ... ‘
As part of the Lions International organisation, some funds are used to assist charitable needs throughout the world e.g. major disasters such as the Tsunami disaster of 2005, the recent Haiti earthquake, and on-going projects of Sight conservation, Hearing and Speech conservation, Diabetes awareness and Youth projects.
