A girl from Yateley, Hampshire won a competition to design a space creature for the region’s newest hotel and enjoyed a ‘sleep over party’ for her family in the process.

The competition was organised jointly by the new generation Holiday Inn and Intech Science and Technology Centre in Winchester and asked local children to ‘Invent a Space Creature’ which would then be used on the hotel’s children’s menus.

The under 7 category was won by Isabel Westbrook (5), who sent in her space creature entry called Spotty. Living on Spotty Planet the creature’s favourite food is honey and can now be found on all the hotel’s children’s menus, place mats and promotional material.

Linda Williams, sales manager at the hotel said: “We had over 250 entries so it was a really difficult decision to make. Isabel’s design was chosen as Spotty looks like a very friendly space creature and is very colourful.

“We decided to ask the children in the local area to take part in the competition as we feel it is important to not only to involve the local community of all ages in what we’re doing at the hotel but also excite imagination and learning about the space world around us.”

The £16.5 million hotel set in the heart of the Hampshire countryside is the first ‘new generation’ Holiday Inn in the UK. It boasts 141 rooms, a selection of meeting rooms and a 150 seat restaurant.
