Hugh Pritchard is standing again as the Liberal Democrat Candidate for Locks Heath in the Fareham Borough Council local elections.

Born in 1935 in Wallasey, Cheshire and now living in Sarisbury Green, Hugh stood as Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate in the 2001 General Election when he gained 8,503 votes (18.7% share), coming third after Mark Hoban, Conservative and Jim Carr, Labour. He was elected as Lib Dem Councillor for Fareham South in May 2002.

Hugh is the father of four children and grandfather of twelve! He enjoys solving people’s problems. One of the high points for him in recent years has been his election in April as President of Fareham Meon Probus. He lists his top achievements as having four children, winning the Woodford Marathon in 1985 and nine elections.

Hugh is one of the few people who doesn’t own a TV. Instead he relaxes by reading and running. In fact one of his greatest indulgences is buying books -at the moment he is reading ‘Lost Voices of World War One – Navy and RAF’.

Hugh’s greatest unfulfilled ambition is to run the South African Comrades Marathon, the 56-mile ultra-marathon in held in memory of the spirit of the soldiers in the Great War.

Hugh says:

“I feel it is important for Council policies to be fully scrutinised before implementation. This is difficult in Fareham as one party has a 22-9 majority. In 2010 it is having to call on family members to be candidates as no original minds are available.

Just replacing one family member by another makes challenge and scrutiny less likely – we can’t afford mute voices in Council.

Having previously represented Locks Heath for many years and been both in authority and opposition I have the background and experience to be effective from day one. As Cllr Jack Englefield said, “He doesn’t just Talk The Talk, he Walks The Walk.”

People will have to look beyond the politics and the past and decide who is best equipped to represent them.”

My thanks to Hugh for his time.

Tina

HE WAS booted off the council for swindling cash from the taxpayers he was supposed to be serving.

Now disgraced benefits cheat Hugh Pritchard is considering asking voters to give him a second chance – at the age of 74.

In 2002 the pensioner was expelled from his Liberal Democrat party and forced from his seat on Fareham Borough Council after he was convicted for falsely claiming housing and council tax benefits.

Eight years on and Mr Pritchard is being lined up for a dramatic return – sparking fury among opposition councillors who have slammed the controversial move as a “sad day for democracy”.

Despite his past convictions the Fareham Liberal Democrat Party has chosen Mr Pritchard to stand as their candidate for Locks Heath at the next election.

They have strongly defended their decision, insisting Mr Pritchard deserves a second chance.

The Conservative candidate for Locks Heath, Susan Bayford, stands IN HER OWN RIGHT, with a superb record of assisting Fareham MP Mark Hoban, in helping constituents with their problems, and now wishes to stand in her own right as Locks Heath Councillor.   Enough of the rubbish from the Liberal Democrat nominee...we deserve honesty and sincerity in this parish...and Susan Bayford will give us that in abundance.
One assumes that not only has Mr Pritchards morals gone missing, but also his memory...for in 1976 it was indeed himself AND HIS wife who were up for election !!!  I can give reasons going way back to the days of Wally Briggs, as to why it would be a grave mistake even to consider allowing Hugh Pritchard through the doors of Fareham Borough Council.
Suffice to say...the good folk of Locks Heath are sensible enough to bar him from taking part in any form of governance.
