Drive ? or Walk, Talk and Smile?

Two days - two experiences - I know which one I choose to repeat.

Day 1. Need to go to the shop for a few bits.  Jump in car on drive. Go 3/4 mile up the road to the Locks Heath Centre. Don't really think about anything apart from how much room is there to pass the parked cars.  Drive into car park, wait a few minutes to park as its quite busy. Take trolley, fill it up (because I can - hence spend too much). Get to checkout to find I've forgotten my shopping bags, have short conversation with cashier. Drive home. Unpack shopping. A job done.

Day 2. Need to go to the shop for a few bits. Take shopping trolley from porch. (kids are out so no-one to take the mickey). Put on coat and hat. Walk out of house and 3/4 mile up the road. Smell the leaves and autumn fruits. Shiny conkers and acorns decorating the trees and paths. Get a few ideas for the garden from other peoples as I pass them. Say "hello" to people at the bus stop. Smile and they smile too. Talk to the postman as he comes down the road.  Have a look at the new houses being built. Feel the cool air on my face and the moisture in the air. Arrive at the shops. Wander round the shops looking in all the windows. Pass the time of day with a few people doing the same about nothing in particular. Pop in the charity shop for a quick browse and chat with the staff. Eventually go into shop and get food I went for.  Didn't buy too much as only have the trolley to carry it home. Feel very pleased with myself. Walk home on the other side of the road so I can see different gardens. See a particular plant that was in our garden when I was a child. Smile at the memories. Arrive home, feeling refreshed and happy, having accomplished my goal.

So for me the choices are

Drive?

 or

Walk, Talk and Smile?

I challenge you - Try it and see for yourself.

Experienced the same thoughts after having a child. Now walk as much as possible and am sure I am enjoying day to day life and going to the shops so much more......

This is brilliant! I really enjoyed your story. We do live such rushed lives these days - even if we have the time to do this I think we're sometimes so used to leaping in the car that we do it simply from habit. Definitely something to be thought about here!
    Thanks.
