Anti-social behaviour in Locks Heath – what do YOU think of Police work here?

With the lighter evenings now moving in we are starting to see a small rise in Anti Social Behaviour amongst some of our local youths. At the moment this is taking the shape of an arranged fight at the Locks Heath Centre, which we have prevented, and various nuisance calls to youths playing football in areas that are not suitable for this type of thing - along with the old favourite, knock and run.

If you are getting problems with nuisance and find that, despite your most reasonable approach, the problems are not moving on and you are not being listened to, then please let the Team know about it. We are currently visiting parents of individuals we identify and in a lot of cases this is working. Obviously there are a few individuals who will not be bothered by the Police turning up and it is these households we would be looking to address more intensely.

There will be another Anti Social Behaviour Campaign this summer following on from last year. This was successful with a marked reduction in the calls to such behaviour. Once again we will be using a mixture of Police Officers and Police Staff targeting known problem areas.

We have also seen a small rise in theft from motor vehicles in the area this week, but it was good to see that one of the aggrieved was able to identify some of what they believed to be their tools. It does appear this latest set of thefts is of power tools and works vans are being targeted in the main. Enquiries will continue into the male selling suspected stolen power tools in Bursledon.

For the first time you can now compare the performance of Hampshire Constabulary with other local police forces nationally, to see how well we are performing, on the HMIC website.

The review of crime and policing in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight by HMIC (Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary) has found that crime rates are generally below those found elsewhere and the chances of being a victim of crimes such as burglary and robbery are low. Hampshire Constabulary is particularly commended for the way it deals with serious crime.

Do you have any comments on our work here in the Western Wards? Are we visible enough? Are you happy that we are serving your needs?

You can leave your comments anonymously here on the LocksHeathPeople website or contact us directly on 0845 045 4545 asking to speak to someone from Park Gate Safer Neighbourhoods Team. You can also email: park.gate.sector@hampshire.pnn.police.uk.

If you would like to raise an issue with me in person I will be at the Community Action Team (CAT) meeting on Wednesday 17th March at St John's Church Main Hall, 7 Church Road, Locks Heath from 7 - 8.30pm.

Until next week.
