Happy New Year!
-
Sergeant Dave Spacey Park Gate West Safer Neighbourhoods Team
I hope you all had a very relaxing Christmas break and are
all geared up for the year to come. Generally we have got through the Christmas
break relatively unscathed. There were a few instances where some didn't follow
the message of ‘Goodwill to all men’ and thus we had a few minor assaults.
There was also one dwelling burglary which occurred in
Priory Park where the house was left insecure. This appears to be more
opportunistic than anything else but even so there is the possibility it could
happen again so just a quick reminder to check windows and doors before
retiring for the night.
Operation Hammock will be running this weekend once again.
Operation Hammock takes place on selected nights every month and involves PCs,
PCSOs and Special Constables working with ACSOs from the council around the
Locks Heath area, targeting known hot spots for anti-social behaviour - such as
Locks Heath Shopping Centre.
During the operation, some officers head out in plain
clothes to spot trouble makers and anti-social incidents - reporting to
officers in uniform, who then take the appropriate action against those causing
problems. There is also an unmarked RPU team out and about to tackle
any anti-social driving. This has proven very popular with local residents
getting involved in the past. So much so, that at this time, ASB in Priory Park
has dropped off noticeably.
As I'm sure a lot of you are aware we have been using a
speed sign on roads you feel are regularly abused by those with lead lined
boots. This has been a popular Operation for the past couple of years with the
majority of the community. Headquarters have now picked up on this idea and I
am in the process of liaising with them to set up a localised speed watch which
will be rolled out force wide in the coming months. Effectively this will entail
volunteers from the community working with myself and the Team getting out on
the streets and addressing this issue. I do not have a great deal more
information at this time as to how we will be expected to run this, but will
send out further information as soon as I receive it.
On an aside it appears the Team will stay as is for the
immediate future and we will not be getting cut back in the initial changes
that will be coming this year. Once again if this situation changes I will
update you further. Remain fluid, I think is the term?
For now, take care.
