Thankfully, despite the
-
Taj Mahal
-
Peter Falconer - outgoing Chair of the Regatta Committee
-
L-R Ghandi (Obbzie) Big Chris, Janice and Jenny
very wet week beforehand, it was a beautiful day on 28th August –
perfect weather for the 140th Swanwick Bursledon Warsash Regatta.
There were already big crowds gathering in
the Elephant Boatyard and outside the popular Jolly Sailor Inn when I arrived on Saturday afternoon for the Regatta, which this year carried
the theme ‘A Passage To India.’ Races had began in the morning and carried on well
into the sun-drenched afternoon, keenly observed by Indians of all shapes and
sizes, not to mention a few tigers and elephants.
The Regatta is organised
each year by The Regatta Committee with representatives from all three
villages: Paul Hobbs from Warsash, David Dunn, Hamble, and Jeremy Clark and
Glynn Foulkes of Bursledon are just a few of the team.
Peter
Falconer, also from Bursledon, and now in his third and final year as Committee
Chairman, was also at the Regatta. “I know I said last year would be my last
year as Chair, but I was persuaded to carry on!” He said, “I hand over in January
to Mike Wilson.”
Many thanks to Peter
Delbridge of Boatshed Hamble for sending me some photos too – they can all be
seen in the two galleries here and here.
To see the race results take a look at the Regatta Website.
Did anyone else go? Feel free to upload your photos
– we’d like to see them!
