The 1st July

sees the start of 10th Hampshire Food Festival - a whole month of

lovely local food and drink celebrations.

So what’s coming up

locally – or fairly locally?

The Bugle, High Street, Hamble SO31 4HA, have a Beer

Festival running for the month with a ‘Super Local’ menu with ingredients

sourced from Hamble Valley producers and beers from local breweries such as

Bowman’s, Andwell and Itchen Valley. No booking required – just turn up.

Southwick Brewhouse, Southwick, Fareham PO17 6EB have a ‘Beer Tasting With Steam Up’ event also

running for the month: see the brewery of yesteryear, enjoy

free tastings of Southwick ales as you view the 160 year old steam machine in

action each weekend. Massive choice of beers and ciders. Runs Wed-Sat 10am-5pm;

Sun 11am-4pm

Gunwharf Quays Food

& Real Ale festival runs from 2nd July – 4th

July. A food theatre with chef demonstrations and Raymond Blanc as the star

attraction. Real ale marquee with 40 ales, many from Hampshire and regional

food stalls. Italian food market and offers from Gunwharf Quays’ restaurants.

This ‘how to make delicious desserts’ event

is running on 6th July 2010 and 13th July

from 5-8pm: Learn how to make delicious desserts for celebrations and

entertaining at this cookery demonstration by wedding and events caterers

Vanilla Catering. Get some secret tips from their professional chefs! Price is

The White Star in Southampton has a Dine and Wine Night on 7th July. Executive

Chef Jim Hayward has devised a tasty menu celebrating the local seasonal

produce, which has been matched with local wines. Contact the manager to

Wickham Vineyard Tour & Tasting, Wickham Vineyard, Botley Road, Shedfield,

Experience how a working vineyard and winery operates and find out how

Tandoor BBQ Demonstration on the

Terrace at Vatika Restaurant, Wickham Vineyard, Botley

Road, Shedfield, Southampton, SO32 2HL on

10th July from 12.30-3.30pm. A BBQ and glass of

Wickham wine or Hill Farm apple juice on Vatika’s terrace overlooking the

vineyard. Atul Kochhar and Jitin Joshi will demonstrate cooking techniques for

making the perfect BBQ. Includes a tasting plate. Price: £25 adult, £20 Friend

Beekeeping Experience on 14th

July at 10.15am-2pm, A&M Johnson, Grasmead, Limekiln Lane, Bishops Waltham

SO32 1FY. Learn about the importance of the honeybee and see inside the colony.

This is followed by a barbecue of local foods and wine. Tastings of all honey

Wildlife,

Woodland & Orchard walk with juice tasting on 14th

July at Hill Farm

Products, Droxford Road, Swanmore, Southampton SO32 2PY. A guided walk

through orchards and ancient woodland, followed by a tasting of delicious apple

juices. See how the juice is made. This runs from 11am-1pm and 6.30-8.30pm Free

Pig

& Pimms Jazz Evening on 16th July from 7-11pm.

The White Horse Hotel & Brasserie, 19 Market Places, Romsey SO51 8ZJ Price:

Brasserie and feast on Hampshire pork accompanied by a glass of Pimms or a pint

Curdridge Country

Show is on 17th July from 11am-5pm

at Curdridge Reading Rooms, Reading Room Lane, Curdridge, Southampton SO32 2HE.

Concorde Club Annual Jazz & Beer Festival

is on 17th July

11am-6pm and Sun 18th July noon-6.30pm. Local real ales, BBQ using locally

sourced produce, jazz bands, stalls, duck racing and garden games. Bring a rug

or chairs. Children welcome. Venue: Concorde Club, Stoneham Lane, Eastleigh

SO50 9HQ. Prices: £5 adult (includes souvenir beer glass), children free.

Hampshire

Farmers’ Market in Southsea is on 18th July from 10am-2pm at 

Palmerston Road Precinct, Southsea PO5 3PS. Free, no booking required.

The Oven Door Bakery,

Unit 4, Botley Road, Fair Oak, Eastleigh SO50 7AN is running a Hands On, Hands In Breadmaking & cake finishing

event on Tues 20th

and 27th July from 6-10pm, and Sun 31st July 3-7pm. 4 hours of bread-making and cake

finishing, working in an operational bakery. Hand-mixing and moulding, and

equipment demonstrations. Cakes, cookies, breads and rolls. Try your hand and
