The youngsters took part in a sprint, run, long jump and vortex howler throw as well as tag rugby, netball and hockey. There will also be a 'pilot' event taking place at Fareham Leisure Centre today for pupils in Key Stage 1 to demonstrate infant agility. SENSATIONAL GCSE RESULTS FOR 2010
    THE HENRY CORT COMMUNITY COLLEGE

It has been another record breaking year at The Henry Cort Community College with GCSE examination results for 2010 the best ever, putting them in a strong position nationally.

58% of youngsters achieved five or more GCSE grades A*- C including English and Maths, which is up from 44% last year – an impressive rise of 14%. Incredibly, 77% of students achieved five or more good GCSE grades across all subjects - a 5% increase on last year.

One measure of success is the number of students who achieved 5 or more A*-C’s. This number rose from 45% in 2005 to 77% this year. This is an outstanding achievement with particular success in modern languages with 87% of pupils who took a modern language examination achieving a grade A* to C.

Several students were delighted with their results including:
    • Georgiev Pavel who moved to England 7 years ago and although English is not his native language, achieved a grade B in English. He is now looking forward to going to college to study ‘A’ levels
    • Dan McTaggart had a 12% chance of getting 5 A*- C grades and his hard work and determination resulted in him considerably exceeding this result including a good grade in maths.
    • Head Girl, Georgina Manners and Head Boy, Alex Holt performed exceptionally well

The Henry Cort Community College provides a successful and inclusive learning community, with specialist status in sport. Phil Munday, Principal said, “I am very proud of our students and the examination results that they achieved this year. In particular I would like to highlight that this year group came to The Henry Cort Community College with on average key stage 2 results that were slightly below national average yet on both indicators we are now achieving significantly better results than national figures. It’s been a truly successful year and the students and staff deserve to be congratulated for their significant success!”

“Three of our students who are looked-after all exceeded their predicted grades for which they should be congratulated, with one student achieving 9 good GCSE passes today. They will be embarking on challenging post 16 courses in September. This is a stark contrast to the national picture for children in care. According to the UK site for statistics on poverty and social exclusion*, a third of looked-after children obtain no GCSEs and a further fifth obtain fewer than five GCSEs.”
In recent years, The Henry Cort Community College has achieved results that place them amongst the top 25 per cent of schools in the country. The recent GCSE results follow on from a very successful OFSTED Report in October 2007 when the College was graded as ‘a good and improving college that provides a good standard of education for its students.’
